Folding Wrought-Iron and Turned-Wood Fireplace Toaster, Mono - Lot 149
Folding Wrought-Iron and Turned-Wood Fireplace Toaster, Monogrammed “EM” – 18th Century Folding fireplace toaster made of wrought iron and fitted with a turned-wood handle. The articulated head consists of four supports designed to hold slices of bread in front of the embers, while the integrated feet allow the piece to be positioned securely in front of the hearth. More elaborate than fixed toasters, this folding model collapses completely for easy storage. The crossbar is engraved with the monogram “EM”, probably an original owner’s mark. A fine example of handcrafted wrought-iron work, representative of domestic utensils from the 18th and early 19th centuries. Original patina and signs of use consistent with its age. Details: Handle length: 42 cm – Width: 17 cm
