Dancing Faun - Grand Tour - bronze – 19th century - Lot 129
Dancing Faun - Grand Tour - bronze – 19th century Bronze statuette with a brown and green patina depicting a dancing faun, modeled after the famous Dancing Faun discovered in Pompeii in the House of the Faun. This type of bronze miniature was particularly sought after by travelers on the Grand Tour in the 19th century as a memento of Italy’s great archaeological discoveries and ancient collections. The figure is depicted nude, in rhythmic motion, with raised arms and a head crowned with foliage. It rests on an integrated quadrangular base. Antique patina with signs of wear, localized traces of oxidation, and minor surface losses consistent with its age. Details: Height: 31 cm – Base: 10 × 10 cm – Weight: 1.4 kg.
