Lacquered wooden spa box with chinoiserie decoration – 18th century
A rectangular box made of red lacquered wood, richly decorated with painted chinoiserie motifs accented with gold. The lid features a lively scene of figures in traditional costumes set against an oriental landscape adorned with trees, pavilions, and pagodas. The sides are adorned with mountainous landscapes, vegetation, and Asian architecture, arranged in a delicate and harmonious composition. The lid is hinged, with an ornate metal keyhole, and the interior is painted black. A fine example of the decorative art of 18th-century Spa boxes.
