Thomas Bartholin, *Anatomia Reformata*, 1651 - Lot 113
Thomas Bartholin, *Anatomia Reformata*, 1651
Early edition of Thomas Bartholin’s anatomical treatise, *Anatomia ex Caspari Bartholini parentis institutionibus, omniumque recentiorum propriis observationibus tertium ad sanguinis circulationem reformata*, published in Leiden in 1651 by Franciscus Hackius. Contemporary full vellum binding, with the spine bearing an old handwritten inscription reading “Bartholini 1651.” The work is illustrated with numerous engraved anatomical plates, some of which are fold-out, focusing in particular on the internal organs, the vascular system, and the nerves. The engraved title page depicts a flayed anatomical figure. This copy shows the usual signs of wear and tear typical of a 17th-century scientific work, including wear on the binding, foxing, stains, tears, and visible fragility along the margins.
