Boxwood Corpus Christi – 18th century - Lot 93
Boxwood Corpus Christi – 18th century
A Corpus Christi carved from boxwood, dating from the 18th century. Christ is depicted alive, with his head tilted to the right, his arms spread wide, and the perizonium tied around his right hip. The hands and feet have holes where the original fastening nails once were, while an iron suspension ring remains on the back. The arms, assembled separately using a traditional technique, have visible joints at the shoulders. The delicacy of the carving, the precise anatomical modeling, and the contemplative expression on the face are characteristic of religious boxwood statuary from this period. The figure was intended to be mounted on a cross that is now lost.
Details: Height: 23 cm – Width: 16.5 cm – Weight: 0.156 kg.
