Virgin and Child in Alabaster, 19th century A 19th-century alabaster statue depicting the Virgin Mary holding the Infant Jesus in her arms. The Virgin is shown standing, dressed in a long veil and a loose-fitting cloak with deep folds. The Child, seated on her left arm, holds a globe in his hand, a symbol of his sovereignty. The rendering of the drapery and the softness of the faces are characteristic of religious sculpture from the second half of the 19th century. Evidence of a previous restoration is visible at the base. Details: Height: 51 cm – Width: 14 cm – Weight: 11 kg.
