Chokwe Female Figurine with Hairstyle, Congo/Angola, early 20th century
A carved wooden female statuette attributed to the Chokwe culture, depicted standing with her legs slightly bent and her hands resting on her abdomen. The head features highly stylized features, with circled eyes, a protruding mouth, and a hairstyle engraved with geometric motifs. A hemispherical bowl is set atop the head. Beautiful dark brown patina with reddish highlights, showing signs of use and age.
Details: Period: early 20th century; Origin: Angola / Democratic Republic of the Congo; Culture: Chokwe; Material: carved wood; Height: 40 cm; Condition: visible signs of wear, cracks, and small areas of ancient loss, particularly at the base and along the rim of the cup.
