Yaka zoomorphic pipe - DR Congo - first half 20th century - Lot 208
Yaka zoomorphic pipe - DR Congo - first half 20th century Small carved wooden pipe depicting a stylized animal, typical of Yaka production from southwestern Democratic Republic of Congo. The bowl is integrated into the body of the figure and closed by a hinged metal lid, while the stem extends the shape towards the back. The elongated head and rounded body volumes suggest a simplified animal representation. The surface has a dark patina resulting from use. Carved pipes of this type were personal objects combining utilitarian function and artistic expression. Length : 11 cm - Weight : 35 g
