Kongo Copper Narrative Plaque - Lot 108
Kongo Copper Narrative Plaque A rectangular copper plaque with figurative relief decoration depicting a procession of six figures carrying various objects and loads. The scene is framed by a border engraved with geometric motifs. It has a beautiful dark patina that reveals the reddish color of the copper in places. The most likely attribution is the Kongo cultural area, possibly Vili or Yombe, but this remains to be confirmed. Details: Origin: Democratic Republic of the Congo or Republic of the Congo, Culture: Kongo, possibly Vili or Yombe, Material: Copper, Dimensions: 10 × 22 cm, Weight: 495 g, Condition: Original condition with wear, scratches, oxidation, and superficial loss of patina.
