Kuba palm wine bowl - Democratic Republic of the Congo - ear - Lot 103
Kuba palm wine bowl - Democratic Republic of the Congo - early 20th century
Kuba anthropomorphic bowl carved from a single block of wood and intended for the consumption of palm wine. The body of the bowl takes the form of a stylized head with elongated features: half-closed almond-shaped eyes, straight nose and slightly protruding lips. The cheeks feature linear scarification marks, while the hairstyle is treated with a dense network of geometric incisions forming triangular areas, a decoration characteristic of Kuba aesthetics and close to the motifs on raffia textiles. The piece has an arched handle at the back and rests on a small circular foot. Dark brown patina with traces of age and old crack visible at the base.
Height : 19 cm - Weight : 190 g
