Anthropomorphic Chokwe whistle - DR Congo / Angola - first h - Lot 84
Anthropomorphic Chokwe whistle - DR Congo / Angola - first half 20th century
Small carved wooden whistle representing a stylized figure, characteristic of the Chokwe aesthetic. The figure features a long cylindrical neck surmounted by a head with finely sculpted features: half-closed almond-shaped eyes, discreet mouth and headdress or cap with squared decoration. The body is globular in shape, resting on a sculpted base incorporating the whistle's lateral mouthpiece. This type of object was used as a sound instrument or as a personal object, sometimes associated with ritual or communication contexts. Beautiful dark brown patina. Presented on a modern metal base.
Height of whistle: 10 cm - Total weight with base: 53 g
