Kuba - Democratic Republic of the Congo - Cephalomorphic woo - Lot 36
Kuba - Democratic Republic of the Congo - Cephalomorphic wooden wine cup - First half of the 20th century
A carved wooden wine cup shaped like a human head resting on a cylindrical base. The face features stylized features, including half-closed almond-shaped eyes, a straight nose, and a delicately defined mouth. The hairstyle is adorned with a decorative headband finely incised with geometric motifs reminiscent of the characteristic designs of Kuba art. The upper part forms the cup itself, with a slightly flared rim. An arched side handle connects the head to the base and allows the object to be held. The surface has a very dark brown to black patina, glossy in places, resulting from use and handling.
