Yaka - Democratic Republic of the Congo - Wooden anthropomor - Lot 30
Yaka - Democratic Republic of the Congo - Wooden anthropomorphic fetish - First half 20th century
Small wooden sculpture depicting a standing male figure, legs slightly bent and arms draped over the body. The face features stylized features with incised almond-shaped eyes, a straight nose and a discreetly marked mouth. The head is topped by a voluminous cap-shaped headdress, characteristic of certain Yaka representations. The shoulders are broad and the arms angular, while the torso and legs are compact and schematized. The surface has a medium to dark brown patina due to age, use and ritual handling.
