Allegorical group with faun in glazed earthenware, 19th century
Sculpted group in molded earthenware with ivory glaze representing an allegorical scene of neoclassical inspiration: a draped, partially nude female figure stands beside a pedestal surmounted by a faun bust with expressive features and pointed ears, while several putti arranged around the composition interact with her by presenting garlands and flowers; naturalistic treatment of bodies and draperies, dynamic composition organized in the round on an irregular base simulating a rocky plinth; 19th-century European decorative production in the Italian taste, intended for interior decoration and imitating the look of marble. Condition: glaze cracks, visible wear and chips at base and edges, firing defects and glaze irregularities, no apparent restoration.
