Ersari Rug with Mihrab – Afghanistan, 20th century Hand-knotted Ersari rug made of wool, featuring a mihrab design framed by multiple geometric borders. The brick-red field is adorned with a regular pattern of small stylized gul motifs, characteristic of Turkmen rugs from Afghanistan. The prayer niche is highlighted by an architectural composition and spandrels decorated with geometric motifs. Fringes at both ends. Beautiful palette of reds, browns, and blacks.
