Collection of Revolutionary Assignats – 18th-Century France A collection of French revolutionary banknotes (assignats) issued between 1792 and 1795 during the French Revolution. The assignats, initially backed by confiscated national property, were introduced to alleviate the shortage of cash and finance government expenditures. This collection includes several denominations, including 25 sols, 50 sols, 5 livres, 10 sous, 25 livres, and 100 francs, illustrating the evolution of this fiat currency during the revolutionary period. The banknotes are displayed under glass in a modern frame, accompanied on the reverse by a newspaper article devoted to the history and collapse of the assignats. The banknotes show signs of wear, tears, and missing sections consistent with their age. Details: Frame: 42.5 × 32.5 cm.
