Thomason – barrel-type corkscrew – 19th century - Lot 11
Thomason – barrel-type corkscrew – 19th century A Thomason-type mechanical corkscrew made of brass and steel, with a turned bone handle, manufactured in England in the 19th century. This barrel-style model features a patented mechanism that allows the cork to be extracted gradually by rotating the handle, without the need for direct pulling force. It is equipped with a steel side handle to support the body and retains its original corkscrew blade. The body is adorned with a relief medallion depicting the British royal coat of arms with the motto “Honi soit qui mal y pense,” a motif frequently found on English models from the second half of the 19th century. The patina is uniform and consistent with the piece’s age. The bone handle shows some cracks and small, old chips, visible in the photographs. The mechanism functions properly. Details: Length when closed: 19 cm – Length when open: 27 cm.
