Drouot – Gleaner – Bronze, late 19th century - Lot 125
Drouot – Gleaner – Bronze, late 19th century Bronze sculpture with a brown patina depicting a young gleaner carrying a sheaf of wheat, accompanied by a goose trying to grab the ears of wheat. This genre scene, rendered in a naturalistic style, evokes the rural world and work in the fields—a theme particularly popular in French sculpture of the second half of the 19th century. The figure’s movement, the delicate modeling of the drapery, the rendering of the hair, and the realism of the animal all attest to the skill of the sculptor Drouot, whose signature appears on the pedestal. The circular base is adorned with a bronze cartouche bearing the title “Glaneuse,” which is likely original. The piece features a beautiful, uniform brown patina and is a representative example of French decorative sculpture from this period. Details: Height: 63 cm – Weight: 19.10 kg.
