Schneider – glass paste vase – Art Deco – early 20th century - Lot 118
Schneider – glass paste vase – Art Deco – early 20th century
A lenticular-shaped glass paste vase, attributed to Charles Schneider, made in the early 20th century. The acid-etched decoration depicts a stylized landscape of reeds and aquatic vegetation, rendered in black reserves against a background of nuanced brown, amber, and beige tones. The material exhibits the cloudy and powdery effects characteristic of Schneider’s work, achieved by layering colored glass.
The flattened silhouette and stylized naturalistic design illustrate the aesthetic developed by the Schneider workshops in the early 20th century. The interplay of transparency, the contrasts between the layers of glass, and the quality of the engraving give this piece the hallmarks of French glassware from the Art Deco period.
