Cast-iron dog head, gargoyle or downspout element—19th centu - Lot 92
Cast-iron dog head, gargoyle or downspout element—19th century
An architectural element made of cast iron depicting a stylized dog’s head, designed to drain rainwater. The open mouth served as an outlet for water flowing from rooftops, typical of 19th-century gargoyle systems or decorative downspouts. The modeling is expressive, with detailed rendering of the eyes, muzzle, and ears. Shows signs of age, oxidation, and visible wear consistent with prolonged outdoor exposure. Electrical mounting hardware added at a later date.
