Levasseur – Mystery Clock, Regule, 19th century - Lot 88
Levasseur – Mystery Clock, Regule, 19th century Mystery clock made of patinated regule and gilded metal, adorned with a female figure titled “Spring Flower,” based on a design by Levasseur. The young woman, dressed in antique-style drapery and holding a flowering branch, supports a black spherical dial with gilded Roman numerals. The movement features a suspended, visible pendulum—a characteristic of so-called “mystery” clocks—which creates the illusion of operation by partially concealing the mechanism. This type of clock, highly prized in the late 19th century, reflects a taste for decorative objects that combine sculpture and horological innovation. The clock rests on a circular base with a brown patina, adorned with a decorative cartouche on the front. The clock was in working order at the time of cataloging. Details: Total height: 83 cm – Height of the sculpture: 63 cm.
