Japanese maki-e lacquer kushi – early 20th century - Lot 87
Japanese maki-e lacquer kushi – early 20th century
Japanese comb (kushi) in gold-brown lacquer, decorated on both sides with a fine engraved plant motif and enhanced with maki-e depictions of delicate flowering branches and berries. The design, characterized by great simplicity, is rendered in low relief with gold powder, in a style typical of hair accessories produced in the late Meiji and early Taishō periods. This type of comb was worn with the kimono and was part of traditional women’s attire. Slight signs of wear consistent with its age.
Details: Length: 8.5 cm – Height: 3 cm – Weight: 10 g.
