Japanese lacquer and raden comb – early 20th century - Lot 85
Japanese lacquer and raden comb – early 20th century
Japanese comb (kushi) in ivory-colored lacquer, decorated on both sides with a refined design of flowering branches, foliage, and berries executed in maki-e, enriched with mother-of-pearl inlays (raden) and polychrome highlights. The delicately rendered naturalistic composition is characteristic of hair accessories produced in the late Meiji and early Taishō periods. This type of comb was worn with the kimono and was part of traditional women’s attire. Slight signs of wear consistent with its age.
