Japanese lacquer kushi – early 20th century - Lot 84
Japanese lacquer kushi – early 20th century Japanese comb (kushi) in ivory-colored lacquer, decorated on both sides with a delicate design of flowering branches and berries executed in maki-e, with polychrome highlights and fine mother-of-pearl inlays (raden). The composition, of great finesse, combines flowers, foliage, and small fruits in a naturalistic design characteristic of Japanese hair accessories from the late Meiji and early Taishō periods. This type of comb was worn with the kimono and was part of traditional women’s attire. Slight signs of wear consistent with its age. Details: Length: 9 cm – Height: 4.1 cm – Weight: 12 g.
