Engraved Japanese Kushi – Early 20th Century - Lot 82
Engraved Japanese Kushi – Early 20th Century Japanese comb (kushi) made of synthetic material imitating tortoiseshell, with a finely engraved design of chrysanthemum flowers and foliage, accented with gold and silver pigments. The reverse side features a similar floral design as well as an inscription in Japanese characters. This type of comb was part of the traditional hair ornaments worn with the kimono in the early 20th century. The piece as a whole reflects the meticulous craftsmanship characteristic of works from the late Meiji and early Taishō periods. Shows slight signs of wear.
