Carved Wooden Snuff Box – 19th Century - Lot 35
Carved Wooden Snuff Box – 19th Century
A carved wooden pocket snuff box, rectangular in shape with rounded corners, featuring a hinged lid. The lid is adorned with a slightly raised design depicting a stylized floral motif composed of foliage, scrollwork, and a central flower, executed in the spirit of folk art. The body, carefully hollowed out from a single piece of wood, has a beautiful honey-brown patina acquired through years of use. Wooden snuffboxes were widely used in Europe during the 19th century to store snuff. They were often crafted by local artisans and decorated with floral, geometric, or symbolic motifs specific to regional traditions. This example retains its original hinge and shows wear consistent with its age.
