Shoe-shaped snuffbox – carved wood – 19th century A carved wooden snuffbox in the shape of a high-heeled shoe, in the 18th-century style, with a hinged lid. The decoration features a relief lace pattern on the top, rosettes on the sides, and a stylized lion’s head adorning the instep. The interior is hollowed out to hold snuff. This type of object, both utilitarian and decorative, was crafted as a curiosity in the 19th century, drawing inspiration from historical footwear of previous centuries.
