Silver wax seal – coat of arms – 18th century - Lot 16
Silver wax seal – coat of arms – 18th century Silver wax seal with a handle depicting a standing figure dressed in ancient style, resting on a circular base. The die, engraved in intaglio, features a heraldic shield bearing three fleurs-de-lis, surmounted by a helmet, and surrounded by stylized mantling. This type of personal seal was used to seal correspondence and official documents. The quality of the heraldic engraving, combined with the figurative handle, makes this a fine example of 18th-century utilitarian goldsmithing. Signs of wear and light marks consistent with its age. Details: Height: 3 cm – Die diameter: 2 cm – Weight: 14 g
