Needle Case - Carved Corozo – 19th Century A needle case made of finely carved corozo, consisting of two screw-together parts. The decoration, executed in relief across the entire surface, features figurative scenes, floral motifs, foliage, birds, and various attributes evoking the arts and needlework. Corozo, also known as “vegetable ivory,” was particularly prized in the 19th century for its fine grain, which allowed for highly detailed carving. This type of case was a refined sewing accessory designed to protect needles and small sewing tools. Please note that there is an old repair visible on the body and lid.
