Japanese copper tsuba decorated with mon and stylized waves - Lot 45
Japanese copper tsuba decorated with mon and stylized waves – Edo period A mokkō-gata-shaped tsuba made of patinated copper, designed to be mounted on a Japanese sword. The finely hammered surface features a understated design composed of several engraved and inlaid mon (heraldic emblems), combined in the lower section with a motif of stylized waves rendered in slight relief. The functional openings for the kogai and kozuka are intact. The refined aesthetic, emphasizing surface texture and understated ornamentation, is in keeping with the decorative tradition of the Edo period. Beautiful antique patina with even wear that highlights the metalwork. Details: Height: 7 cm – Width: 6.5 cm – Weight: 0.086 kg.
