Oil on canvas depicting a lively interior scene featuring two young artists in a studio. In the foreground, a young boy holding a palette and brushes stands before an easel where a second child is working on a portrait. The composition illustrates the theme of artistic apprenticeship in an intimate atmosphere characteristic of 18th-century French genre painting. The treatment of the child figures, the sensitivity of the subject, and the moralizing spirit of the scene evoke the work of Jean-Baptiste Greuze and his circle. The work has undergone a previous restoration and has been re-stretched. Presented in a wooden frame with gilded stucco.
