Mythological scene featuring a nude female figure surrounded - Lot 149
Mythological scene featuring a nude female figure surrounded by wild beasts – signed W.K.W., dated 1920
Oil on canvas depicting a mythological or allegorical scene in a lush landscape populated by felines and exotic animals. At the center of the composition, a nude female figure moves through a teeming natural setting, in an atmosphere imbued with mystery and poetry. The work is part of the Symbolist tradition of the early 20th century, where the wild world and the idealized female figure blend in a dreamlike vision inspired by Antiquity and the great mythological tales.
The deep-toned palette, the delicate handling of light, and the abundance of botanical details lend the composition a unique and decorative presence. Signed W.K.W. and dated 1920, it is presented in a black molded frame with a gold fillet. An old label from a London art supplier is preserved on the reverse.
Details: Dimensions with frame: 39 × 34 cm – Dimensions of the print: 36 × 22 cm – Weight: 1.4 kg.
