Japanese Imari porcelain bowl with gilded bronze mount, 19th - Lot 62
Japanese Imari porcelain bowl with gilded bronze mount, 19th century
Decorative Japanese Imari porcelain bowl from the 19th century, richly adorned with an openwork bronze mount. The fluted body features a polychrome decoration characteristic of Imari ware, combining underglaze cobalt blue, iron red, and gold highlights. The openwork areas are decorated with floral compositions, geometric patterns, and ornaments inspired by the traditional Japanese repertoire.
The basin rests on an elegant openwork bronze mount supported by four leaf-shaped feet. The upper rim is adorned with two handles depicting stylized dragons, giving the piece a striking decorative presence. This type of bronze setting was particularly popular in Europe during the 19th century, when Japanese porcelain was adapted for bourgeois and aristocratic interiors.
A beautiful decorative object reflecting the European enthusiasm for Japanese arts during the second half of the 19th century, combining the quality of Imari porcelain with the elegance of bronze mounts.
