Covered Tutsi basket in raffia basketry and glass beads - Rwanda - mid 20th century Globular covered basket resting on a small pedestal, entirely covered with blue and white glass beads applied to a woven plant fiber structure. The alternating geometric motifs underline the technical mastery of Rwandan Tutsi basketry in the mid-twentieth century. The cylindrical lid completes the ensemble and features the same rhythmic decoration. This type of vessel was used to preserve or display precious foodstuffs in a domestic or ceremonial context.
