Tutsi covered basket in beaded raffia with polychrome decoration - Rwanda - early 20th century Small covered basket woven from raffia fibers and entirely covered with red, blue and yellow polychrome glass beads forming a geometric pattern of chevrons and concentric bands. The cylindrical shape, topped by a slender conical lid, is reminiscent of traditional Tutsi models from Rwanda, while the addition of pearls testifies to a prestigious production intended for ceremonial exchanges or the display of precious objects. The inner weave of plant fibers remains visible beneath the beaded structure.
