Tutsi "agaseke" covered basket with polychrome decoration - Rwanda - first half 20th century Small covered "agaseke" basket woven from fine plant fibers, ovoid in shape with a slender conical lid. The sober decoration combines undulating lines and horizontal bands in dark brown and muted red on a natural background. This type of Tutsi basketry was used to preserve food or gifts, and also played a role in ceremonial and domestic exchanges in Rwanda.
