Tutsi "agaseke" covered basket with geometric decoration - Rwanda - first half 20th century Small covered "agaseke" basket woven from fine plant fibers, featuring an ovoid shape topped by a slender conical lid ending in a small curved point. The discreet decoration, composed of dark brown geometric bands on a natural background, underlines the sobriety and balance of early Tutsi production in Rwanda. These baskets were used to store precious foods, as well as for ceremonial exchanges and gifts of hospitality.
