Tutsi covered basket in raffia basketry - Rwanda - first half 20th century Small covered basket woven from plant fibers and raffia, circular in shape with domed lid. The black geometric decoration on a natural background develops into concentric friezes and triangular motifs characteristic of Tutsi production in Rwanda. The finesse of the weaving and the balance of the proportions bear witness to a meticulously crafted piece intended for domestic use or display. Beautiful old patina and slight traces of use consistent with age.
