Carved aboriginal shield with linear decoration - Australia - first half 20th century Australian aboriginal shield carved from hardwood, elongated shape with rounded ends. The surface is entirely covered with an engraved pattern of parallel lines and angular motifs forming chevrons and geometric bands, enhanced with red and light ochre pigments. The handle is carved in the mass on the reverse, forming a recessed oval grip characteristic of traditional shields for combat and parade. The surface shows signs of use and an old patina.
