Mbala - Democratic Republic of Congo - Wooden female figure - Lot 178
Mbala - Democratic Republic of Congo - Wooden female figure - First half of 20th century
Small wooden sculpture representing a standing female figure. The figure adopts a slightly bent posture, with legs spread and one arm raised towards the head in a characteristic gesture found in certain Mbala figures. The face is stylized, with half-closed almond-shaped eyes, a straight nose and a finely drawn mouth. The hairstyle is treated in smooth volumes, forming a headband and a mass falling to the back of the head. The torso is schematized with an indicated chest, while the arms and legs are rendered in simple, compact forms. The surface has a medium to dark brown patina due to age and handling. With professional base.
Height: 17, cm - Width: 4 cm - Weight: 310 gr.
