Kuba anthropomorphic drum - DR Congo - early 20th century - Lot 81
Kuba anthropomorphic drum - DR Congo - early 20th century Cylindrical drum in carved wood attributed to the Kuba, featuring a slightly curved body resting on a circular base. The upper part is adorned with a wide geometric frieze of criss-crossing incised motifs characteristic of Kuba aesthetics. An anthropomorphic figure in relief forms a lateral handle: the stylized head and elongated arm are carved into the mass and integrated into the drum's structure. The upper edge retains a leather mount fastened by a metal studded band designed to hold the percussion membrane, which is now missing. The surface shows a patina of use and traces of age. Details: Height: 67 cm - Weight: 3.5 kg.
