Luba - Democratic Republic of the Congo - Wooden headrest - - Lot 180
Luba - Democratic Republic of the Congo - Wooden headrest - First half 20th century
Carved wooden headrest featuring a quadrangular base decorated with a register of incised geometric motifs forming a peripheral frieze. A slightly flared central shaft, adorned with three carved rings, supports a slightly concave upper crosspiece designed to support the nape of the neck. The curved shape of the upper part enabled the head to be supported while resting, while preserving the elaborate hairstyles. The surface has a medium to dark brown patina resulting from use and handling. The object was once broken and then repaired, a practice sometimes observed in certain ritual contexts after the owner's death.
Height: 14 cm - Width: 12 cm - Weight: 265 gr.
