Kuba - Democratic Republic of the Congo - Cephalomorphic wooden wine cup - First half of the 20th century
Carved wooden wine cup in the form of a human head resting on a cylindrical foot. The face features stylized features with half-closed almond-shaped eyes, a straight nose and a finely marked mouth. The headdress is adorned with a decorative band, finely incised with geometric motifs reminiscent of the decorations typical of Kuba art. The upper part forms the bowl itself, with a slightly flared edge. An arched side handle links the head to the foot, enabling the object to be gripped. The surface has a very dark brown to black patina, shiny in places, due to use and handling.
