Solomon Islands - Melanesia - Wooden club - First half 20th - Lot 201
Solomon Islands - Melanesia - Wooden club - First half 20th century
nongue hardwood club from the Solomon Islands, characterized by a slender handle ending in an enlarged leaf- or spatula-shaped head. The opposite end extends into a tapering point, giving the weapon a balanced, elongated silhouette. The wood surface has a dark patina from use and polishing. A small repair is visible and the whole shows traces of use consistent with the age and use of the object. This type of club was used as a combat weapon and could also serve as a prestige object in the context of Solomon Islands warrior traditions.
Length: 110 cm - Width: 13 cm - Weight: 690 gr.
