Kuba bowl - Democratic Republic of the Congo - first half of the 20th century
Kuba bowl carved from a single block of wood and resting on a flared circular foot. The wall is decorated with incised geometric registers forming interlaced patterns reminiscent of the raffia textile compositions characteristic of Kuba art. A side handle is integrated into the structure, ending in a small, stylized anthropomorphic head with almond-shaped eyes and clean lines. This type of bowl was used for drinking palm wine and bears witness to the Kuba taste for surfaces punctuated by repetitive, structured motifs. Beautiful dark patina.
Height : 19 cm - Weight : 210 g
