Maori dance club - New Zealand - late 19th century Carved Maori ceremonial wooden club, probably a patu or wahaika variant, characterized by a curved shape and finely incised decoration covering the entire surface. The upper part is decorated with spiral motifs and intertwined lines typical of Maori ornamentation (kowhaiwhai), executed in regular relief and punctuated by small geometric motifs. The lower side features a small, stylized figure carved in relief, a common feature on this type of club. The end of the handle features a hole for a lanyard. Dark brown patina from use. Length : 38 cm - Weight : 125 g
