Tutsi basket with lid - Rwanda - early 20th century Large Tutsi basket woven from fine plant fibers, of slender form with an ovoid body and characteristic high conical lid. The surface features dark-brown geometric decoration forming zigzag patterns arranged in horizontal registers on a light natural background. This type of basket was traditionally used to store and display foodstuffs or precious products in Rwandan societies. The extremely tight, regular weaving bears witness to the remarkable craftsmanship inherent in the basketry traditions of the Great Lakes region. Height : 43 cm - Weight : 406 g
