Standing Kuba figure - Democratic Republic of the Congo - Fi - Lot 27
Standing Kuba figure - Democratic Republic of the Congo - First half 20th century
Small wooden figure from the Kuba culture, featuring a slender, slightly inclined body with arms at the sides. The head is surmounted by a broad, discoid hairstyle framing the face, a characteristic frequently encountered in Kuba sculpture. The face is stylized with narrow eyes, a triangular nose and a horizontal mouth, highlighted by engraved lines on the forehead and cheeks. The legs are separated by a rectangular opening at the bottom. The surface has a dark patina with lighter wear on the protruding parts, consistent with ancient use. The figure is mounted on a wooden base.
