Seated Kuba figure - Democratic Republic of the Congo - firs - Lot 10
Seated Kuba figure - Democratic Republic of the Congo - first half of the 20th century
Male figure in carved wood representing a squatting figure, elbows resting on knees and hands supporting the head. This introspective posture is characteristic of certain Kuba sculptures associated with the representation of ancestors or prestigious figures. The face features stylized, half-closed eyes, a straight nose and a slightly protruding mouth. The finely incised headdress forms a grid pattern covering the top of the skull. The circular base is decorated with incised geometric motifs. The surface shows a dark patina with traces of use and edge wear, testifying to its former use.
Height : 18.5 cm - Weight : 460 g
