Large cameo shell in Cassis madagascariensis, Italy, circa 1870-1900 Large shell carved in high relief from a specimen of Cassis madagascariensis, depicting a neoclassical scene featuring Venus surrounded by nymphs and putti ("Love in a cage"), executed in natural cream and brown tones characteristic of Neapolitan workshops, notably Torre del Greco, active in the second half of the XIXᵉ century; relief carving work exploiting the different layers of the shell to create depth and contrast; height: 20 cm; weight: 1,153 g; condition: very good, with no visible cracks or restoration.
